What is Hap Ki Do?
None of the martial arts
techniques have been invented or created by any one person; rather they have
been developed by many over a great number of years becoming part of the
history of a nation.
There are many familiar
sports unique to the western world such as wrestling, boxing and fencing. In
the east, however, competitive sports such as Tae Kwon Do, Koum Do, along with
Hap Ki Do have developed over many years from ancient martial arts
teachings. For more information and history concerning Hap Ki Do, please
check out the history page.
To better understand Hap Ki
Do, develop these three basic skills:
1. NON-RESISTANCE
In Hap Ki Do one would never step inside his opponent's area of greatest
momentum to block. Instead he would avoid direct confrontation by stepping to
the outside of an attack with a soft arching circular motion. Once the attack
has been diverted, he would be free to attack the most vulnerable areas of his
opponent's body.
2. CIRCULAR MOTION
Like a cat stalking its prey, the Hap Ki Do practitioner flows from one motion
to the next without interruption, providing an unbroken line of continuous
motion, power and energy.
3. WATER PRINCIPAL
As the flowing stream penetrates and surrounds its obstructions, and as the
dripping water eventually penetrates the stone, so does the Hap Ki Do strength
flow in and through its opponent.
